Join us for a screening of Memory of Water (dir. Saara Saarela, Finland, 2022) an explosive new Finnish dystopian thriller based on the internationally acclaimed novel by Emmi Itäranta!

Set in the near future during a time of ongoing environmental catastrophe, Noria is a young woman apprenticing her father, the sage tea master of their water-scarce village, as the totalitarian Scandinavian Union imposes severe rations on the peninsula’s dwindling water supply. When her father unexpectedly dies, Noria becomes the new tea master, finding herself in a daunting position of great spiritual and political authority. Then, she makes a shocking discovery: a well-preserved source of clean drinking water exists far out in the wilderness. As she investigates the mysterious oasis, it becomes clear that her military government is complicit in a conspiracy to dehydrate the masses. Will she risk her life to expose the truth? Can one person save the world from drought?

Memory of Water combines sci-fi and drama on a grand scale” (Aalto.fi).
