Ensemble mise-en returns in its four-day New Music Festival, which will be held from June 26 through June 29 at select venues in Brooklyn and Manhattan, NY. In its final event, a marathon concert at Scandinavia House on Saturday, June 29, will feature 30 composers from 20 countries, including 27 premieres. Works have been selected from 782 submissions from 61 countries.

 

 

Select Nordic performers at this event include Alisson Kruusmaa (Estonia), Frej Wedlund (Sweden), Peder Barratt-Due (Norway), and Santa Bušs (Latvia). Performances will take place at 5:30 and 7:30 PM, with a reception between the concerts.

About ensemble mise-en

Examining unusual corners of the composition world” (New York Times), ensemble mise-en “offers something fresh for your ears” (Time Out New York) with a repertoire that is simultaneously multicultural, intellectually challenging, and aesthetically pleasing.

Though a wide array of projects, including concert series, tours, and workshops, mise-en engages artists and audiences in a vast and growing body of contemporary music. The ensemble’s annual music festival has gained international recognition, drawing from more than 3,400 works submitted by composers since 2014.

Since its founding in 2011, ensemble mise-en has presented a total of 350 pieces, including 150 works written for the group and 64 U.S. premieres. The ensemble has also performed at exciting venues such as (le) poisson rouge, Bohemian National Hall, Italian Academy, the DiMenna Center, Tenri Cultural Institute, and the cell, and premiered works by Jarrell, Abrahamsen, Hosokawa, Mitterer, Pagh-Paan, and Saariaho, among others. Recent tours have taken the ensemble to parts of the American Midwest and New England, as well as to European countries including Sweden, Lithuania, and Latvia.
