VIRTUAL NORDIC HOLIDAY CRAFT WORKSHOPSSeries

MoreKids + Families

This December, experience the Nordic holidays with a series of virtual workshops from the Children’s Center! In this series, learn how Scandinavians prepare for Christmas through programs teaching how to make traditional holiday items such as woven hearts and yarn tomtar.

In the first event, see how to make Danish Woven Hearts (flettet Julehjerte), a holiday staple in Denmark! Pleated decorations that are now traditionally created from wicker baskets, woven hearts most popularly date back to authors Hans Christian Andersen, who began designing them in 1860 to use as adornments for Christmas trees. Since then, they have been widespread in Danish households throughout the holiday, and are also popular in Norway and in northern Germany.

The event will take place simultaneously as a premiere on both YouTube and Facebook; check back closer to the date for links to both, and to chat with us during the presentation on either platform! The series will continue with more craft tutorials on December 16 & 23.

An instructions booklet is provided for this and all events; to download the booklet, please click here.
