Ensemble mise-en performs the work of five living Danish composers representing each generation of new music artists working today, including Hans Abrahamsen, Thomas Agerfeldt Olesen, Per Nørgård, Simon Steen-Andersen, and Bent Sørensen, exploring connections that can forge unique emotional and psychological pathways through art.

Ensemble mise-en performs the work of five living Danish composers representing each generation of new music artists working today, including Hans Abrahamsen’s Seks stykker (1984); Thomas Agerfeldt Olesen’s Dedications (2000); Per Nørgård’s Scintillation (1993); Simon Steen-Andersen’s In spite of, and maybe even therefore (2007); and Bent Sørensen’s The Hill of the Heartless Giant (2001).

Exploring temporal distances rather than geographic ones, the concert is part of the ensemble’s CONNECTIONS series that details, explores, and ventures into the titular connections between artistic or cultural groups separated by location, tradition, or generation, and how those connections can forge unique emotional and psychological pathways through art.

About ensemble mise-en

Led by composer and founder Moon Young Ha, ensemble mise-en draws its roster from New York’s most talented young new music performers. Its multi-national personnel strive to bring a repertoire of challenging, new sounds to diverse audiences.

The ensemble wishes to impart an experience that is simultaneously multi-cultural, intellectually stimulating, and aesthetically pleasing (“mee” means “beauty” in Korean and “zahn” means “to decorate”), promoting large- scale composition projects and intense performances of contemporary music with programs featuring the works of many established and budding composers alike.
