This summer Scandinavia House hosts performances from some of Scandinavia’s most talented young jazz musicians, composers, and singers over five consecutive Thursdays, June 23 through July 21. All Summer Jazz concerts will be preceded by a reception on the Volvo Hall terrace starting at 6 PM.
Swedish jazz singer Isabella Lundgren writes and performs music with heart and soul that opens doors to the past as well as to the present. Together with Carl Bagges’s dynamic trio she takes on music from the American songbook, the blues tradition, and her original compositions.
“A Swedish Billie Holiday…but she is influenced by many others and above all she has the rare artistic ability to make full use of the lyrics both as a story telling device and as a musical expression.. Her phrasing is elastic; she is holding and stretching the notes with the competence that can only occur when you are totally present.”—Bohuslänningen
About Isabella Lundgren
Born and raised in the small town of Karlstad, Sweden, Isabella Lundgren moved to New York City at 18 to study at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. After five years in New York City, Lundgren returned to Sweden where she released her debut album It Had to Be You while pursuing a Master’s degree in Theology. The album won both critical and public acclaim. She has since released an additional four albums in Japan and another in Sweden. Her second album, Somehow Life Got in the Way, was awarded the prestigious Golden Record award from jazz magazine Orkesterjournalen. In Sweden she has collaborated with noted musicians Peter Asplund, Magnus Lindgren, Jan Lundgren, Nisse Landgren, Claes Jansson, Bengan Jansson, and Carl Bagge, to name a few.
