“The film should be commended for its even-handed, considered approach to exploring relationship choices outside the monogamous mainstream” (Sight and Sound). See Four Little Adults (Neljä pientä aikuista; dir. Selma Vilhunen, Finland, 2023), a new Finnish drama about a married couple’s decision to embrace polyamory, in New Nordic Cinema at Scandinavia House!
It’s October in Helsinki when we’re invited into the home of Juulia (Alma Pöysti) and Matias (Eero Milonoff). The family looks ordinary: Juulia is a rising political star in the Equality Party, Matias is the respected local parish priest, and their son Milo is a healthy and well-adjusted preteen. When Juulia learns that Matias has been seeing a lover, Enni, for over a year, her world is turned upside-down. After meeting with Enni together, the couple makes the thoroughly modern decision to embrace a polyamorous lifestyle, inviting a third and even a fourth to join their marriage.
