Released in 2018, the Finnish absurdist comedy and heavy-metal rock-opera Heavy Trip (Heivi Reissu, dir. Jukka Vidgren and Juuso Laatio) follows the members of “Impaled Rektum,” an amateur metal band based in a small village in northern Finland. Twenty-five-year-old Turo and his band mates have been playing for 12 years without a single gig. But when they have a chance meeting with the organizer of a major Norwegian heavy metal festival, they’ll stop at nothing to play their first festival — even if it means stealing a van, a corpse, a coffin, and a mental-patient drummer to get there. Hailed as “wildly, joyfully, madly screeching” (THR), Heavy Trip is “one of the funniest buddy comedies of the year” (RogerEbert.com). Watch trailer
In Heavier Trip, Impaled Rektum are now incarcerated in Norway. But when guitarist Lotvonen discovers that his family’s slaughterhouse is in trouble, they decide to break out of prison to perform at Wacken, Germany’s iconic festival. Their wild and perilous adventure challenges the band’s integrity in a sequel that is “an absolute joy to behold” (Collider).
