The Scandinavian American Theater Company (SATC) introduces a new generation of Nordic playwrights in a series of staged readings representing Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Finland, and Denmark, including Greenland and the Faroe Islands. SATC is a collective of theater artists founded to provide Scandinavian perspectives through the new generation of Scandinavian playwrights and theater artists.

SATC presents contemporary plays and inventive takes on the classics from the Nordic region. SATC is committed to strengthening the relationship between Scandinavia and the United States through collaborations and interdisciplinary artistic exchange that examine and challenge the cultural status quo.

An Impossible Boy/En umulig gutt

Written by Petter S. Rosenlund (Norway, 1998) and translated by Charlotte Barslund (Denmark) and Kim Dambæk (Denmark). Set in a hospital, An Impossible Boy is an absurd satire about self-absorbed adults neglecting a young patient.

As of October 2000, the play has been staged by Oslo Nye Teater (Oslo); Téâtre Gérard Philipe de Saint-Denis (Paris); Le Gymnase (Marseille); Comedie Francaise (Paris); Nye Plaza (Stockholm); and the Staatstheater in Darmstadt (Darmstadt).

About the playwright

Petter S. RosenlundPetter S. Rosenlund (b. 1967) is a Norwegian author, dramatist/playwright, and journalist. He holds degrees from the University of Bergen in Norway and the University of California, Irvine. Rosenlund worked for the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK) for several years,

where he made a number of full-length documentaries. He debuted as a playwright with An Impossible Boy and received the prestigious Ibsen Award in 1998. Rosenlund also wrote the play Much Abode about Nothing.no/Stor stue for ingenting.no to commemorate the Norwegian National Theatre’s 100th anniversary; the play premiered in 1999.
